During this time, who always insisted that the election should be clean
and fair if not the oppositions and their NGOs such as Bersih movement.
But when the National Consultative Committee suggested a political law
to curb elements of corruption or foul play, why would the oppositions
continously against them? What is there to fear if they are clear?
Since 2012, the Prime Minister who is also Barisan Nasional (BN)
chairman Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak has proposed legal regulation for
political funding and since then the opposition had earlier against them
with a variety of reasons. The intention is clear, it is to prevent
politicians from misusing the party platform to solicit or accept any
contribution which is then diverted for personal gain.
It was since then that the oppositions are not in favor of the
suggestion but at the same time they have been questioning PM Najib’s
Arab donor and the political funding. Are they refusing the suggestion
for the sake of just refusing since it was mooted by the ruling party
President? Infact, the new law also suggested that any donations to any
political party, whether at the federal or state, must be channeled
through the party official account.
It is thus a legitimate concern too when there are talks that some
parties are receiving money from illegal or foreign sources, therefore
if the oppositions are transparent in this matter, then they should not
be afraid. So far we have only heard rumors and talks that opposition
parties fundings are from abroad, is this not the best effort to erase
such baseless accusations for them?
