complicated and time-consuming and a real-time information is essential to better inform our daily journey to use public transport on the go, without planning. Whether you're travelling on the road or the rails or abroad, smartphone apps can smooth your journey.
For this, in partnership with Cradle Fund and with the support of Google Malaysia, SPAD is calling Malaysians especially developers, aspiring developers and university students to participate in a competition;

SPAD Journey Planner Competition (‘the competition’) is a concept and Web/smartphone app competition to develop a journey planner application. Developers are allowed to demonstrate their prowess and development skills to develop useful Web-based applications (primary objective on PC and mobile web; good examples are rome2rio.com and gothere.sg).
For other platforms such as HTML5, iOS and Android they are considered as an added advantage; since the roadmap for Journey Planner development is targeted for mobile users too.
The competition is to develop the concepts for Journey Planner apps to encourage Land Public Transport (LPT) usage by Malaysians and tourists alike encouraging Digital Lifestyle and the Internet of Things. It is also to encourage the local development community to produce more useful journey planner apps for the public. The public shall also be engaged to get their views @;

- The apps created:
- Usable for PC and mobile devices.
- May be considered for further development or partnership by SPAD or partners and supporters such as Cradle Fund, Mavcap or MCMC.
- The Intellectual Property rights of the apps developed and source code will be retained by the participants. SPAD should however be given the first right of refusal for the finalist and winner apps.
- SPAD in wishing to encourage the development community and land public transport will be allowed to use the elements and learning derived from the competition to for future initiative.
The competition offers the opportunity for participating developers:
- To be listed as a service provider with SPAD for app development as required
- To further develop their app with strategic partnership and help via SPAD, Cradle, Mavcap, Google and MCMC.
- To create business or strategic partnership with SPAD and other interested partners in the future.
Attractive prizes will be offered to the top winners and consolation prize winners.
There will be 5 finalists and one grand prize winner plus special mention awards for ‘technical excellence, innovation and creativity’ and ‘most features or platforms’ or any other category deemed fit by jury. Five consolation prizes for other notable participations can also be given.The value of the prizes will be announced soon. Contestants may also have their web or smartphone app considered for further development with partnership by SPAD or partners such as Cradle Fund, Mavcap or MCMC.
