SPAD NABBED SEXUAL ASSAULT CAB DRIVER

With no compromise and favor, SPAD acts stern upon The Star's article published recently titled 'Nightmare ride with pervert cabbie'. Despite age or race, sexual assult by cab drivers is a huge disgrace to the industry when SPAD at all means and at its best to improve our taxi industry to world class standard.

It is reported that the incident happened on Jan 28 in Jalan Metro Prima, Kepong around 7pm to a victim after she completed her groceries shopping and boarded for the taxi.

The pervert cabbie not only threatened by placing a knife on the dashboard when uttering obscene comments towards her but forced to place her hands to his private parts. She was also told not lodge reports against him. The incident ended till she reached home.

As such, SPAD responded with the following official statement;
SPAD condemns inappropriate behaviour of taxi drivers

Kuala Lumpur, 25 February 2014

Referring to The Star’s article published 25 February 2014, entitled ‘Nightmare ride with pervert cabbie’, Suruhanjaya Pengangkutan Awam Darat (S.P.A.D) wishes to inform members of the public that investigations have begun on the alleged sexual assault that involved a taxi driver.  S.P.A.D. has tracked down the driver and he has been called in for investigation.  S.P.A.D. will also work closely with PDRM in this investigation.

S.P.A.D. stands firm in condemning all forms of harassments and if found guilty, the taxi driver runs the risk of having his licence revoked under the Land Public Transport Act 2010.

“Anyone found guilty of the alleged offence is not fit to be a taxi driver and is a disgrace to the profession,” said  S.P.A.D.’s Chief Executive Officer,  En. Mohd Nur Ismal Mohamed Kamal.  He added that S.P.A.D. is working hard to improve the taxi industry and taxi drivers demonstrating negative behaviour which was against the law or breached licensing conditions would be weeded out and these drivers punished for their abhorrent behaviour.

S.P.A.D. urges victims of any types of harassment to immediately come forward and lodge a complaint directly with S.P.A.D., via the SPAD Aduan Hotline (1-800-88-7723), through email (aduan@spad.gov.my), via Twitter @aduanSPAD or on the SPAD official Facebook page.
